Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every way--except their craving for human flesh. Ghouls live among us, the same as normal people in every way--except their craving for human flesh. Ken Kaneki is an ordinary college student until a violent encounter turns him into the first half-human half-ghoul hybrid. Trapped between two worlds, he must survive Ghoul turf wars, learn more about Ghoul society and master his new powers. As Kaneki and the fiercest fighter in the CCG, Arima, finally face off, several investigators launch an assault on Yoshimura, unaware of the danger that awaits them. The massive battle takes a turn for the worse when the One-Eyed Owl appears, leaving the fate of Kaneki and the CCG hanging in the balance.
Our hero Kaneki finally faces off against the CCG's ultimate weapon, Kisho Arima. Meanwhile the ghost of the One Eyed Owl is standing on his last legs when the real Owl shows it's face giving the doves a fight for their money, and lives. As the final chapter comes to a close, something happens that no one would think possible just 3 pages back, giving us a small glimpse of what's to come in Tokyo Ghoul: re, Vol. 1.
This is going to be so hard to explain why I love this series without giving spoilers. I'm not too proud to admit, I did shed a tear during a moment or two of the series. What happened with both the doves and ghouls, I will leave up to your imaginations or your own eyes if you read this manga.
Everything is extraordinary in this series, and especially in this volume. While I have already read both this and Tokyo Ghoul :re, I still find myself itching to read on and find out what the heck is going on!?
By this volume the art is off the charts and feel like it'll only get better with the coming series, everything practically jumps from the page and comes to life before your eyes. To me Tokyo Ghoul has the best art style in any manga I have read.
If it wasn't for the cliff hangar at the very end, the series could be considered wrapped up if you do not want to venture in farther but, there is still so much to learn about the characters and the world of humans and ghouls. Will Kaneki's dream of peace ever come true? Is a new coffee shop in Touka's future? What will happen to the CCG?
Let's read Tokyo Ghoul: re, Vol. 1 and find out.
