If the modern world can be characterised by one thing it is probably the enormous increase in the number of words around - but that increase has also been accompanied by a seemingly corresponding decrease in understanding. J. I. Packer is a master wordsmith. He is also gifted with the ability of showing where truth lies in complicated reasoning. These skills combine to make 18 Words a fascinating read - and a life-changing one.
This short book on Bible themes is an excellent way to start off the study of theology. It is very practically oriented and doesn't get into heavy technical phrasing. Easy to understand and straight to the point. Packer is one teacher/pastor who can get right to the heart of the matter with the least amount of words. This straight-to-the-point style of writing is a feature most people will find attractive. I would recommend this book for bible study at the high school or college level. Due to Packer's theological orientation towards the Anglican/Reformed/Puritan tradition there are some minor points I will disagree with (I'm a dispensationalist). However, this book should be read by all who want a good and introductory study on Bible themes.
