The 2nd Armored division, nicknamed 'Hell on Wheels', fought with distinction in World war 2 and was the first US division to reach the Elbe and to enter Berlin. elements of 2nd Armored first saw action in North Africa, landing at Casablanca on 8 November 1942, but the division as a whole did not enter combat until the invasion of Sicily. After this it trained in England for the invasion of Normandy, landing on D+3 and going into action near Carentan; it would go on to play a significant role in the Falaise Gap battles, subsequently racing across France, through Belgium and into Germany.
This is easily the best single source for the Second Armored Division in WWII. It covers their deployments and campaigns with the aid of photos, maps, and statistics. Although small (less than 100 pages and a large sized hardcover), it is the best information I've found on the Division in my research. The text is clear and not as "wordy" as I find most historical reference books. The author tells the single soldiers story at times and what they did to distinguish themselves. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the 2nd Armored Division or "Hell on Wheels" in World War II. This is a book worth picking up at such a low price.
