The 40-Day Journey with Joan Chittister introduces Joan Chittister, a Benedictine nun who lives in Erie, Pennsylvania and is best known for her spiritual writing and her powerful actions for peace and justice. The 40-Day Journey series invites readers to take a personal spiritual journey with a Christian leader from the past or present. Each book begins with a short introduction to the life of the leader and then offers forty chapters, each of which includes a reading from the subject's writings, scripture selections from the Bible, a journal-writing exercise, and a prayer. Each book is a rich resource for personal meditation or small group discussion anytime, but is especially valuable during Advent or Lent.
..for me - has been found. I was told, in my request for the way to find a spiritual director was to pray, of course. And, I realize as I sit quietly each morning that Joan Chittister is the best choice for me. I highly recommend her challenging words as well as the format for reflection. It took me a day or two to not race through, but a daily re-read of the "how to use this book" enabled me to find the pace that offers the most contemplative opportunity a book has yet to provide. On day 13, I can honestly say, that each day has been amazingly timed. I've used in "before my work day" setting, for the Sabbath, and now in a week of solitude and silence. All three settings have produced a similar yield of grace.
