Ever hear the expression "They don't make um' like this anymore?" Well they don't write um' like this anymore either. --50 Great American Short Stories-- is just that Damn good writing! The short stories are written by Shaw, Poe, Steinbeck, Hemingway, O Henry, and Hawthorne, just to name a few of the classic geniuses. THe vocabulary is lush, musical, and flows into one's ears like a kind of sugar for the brain, the soul. The only problem with reading these stories is--if one is already a writer of sorts, they must come to the conclusion that arriving at the same level as these literary 'Gods' is not an option--only a tool for them to grasp, hold, and savor in their minds like a priceless gift. My suggestion is to unwrap these little jewels and drape yourself in their beauty--then wrap back up and pass along to somebody else! ***Thank you to the teacher at St.Scholastica for allowing me to be an out-of-classroom-student*** I loved it!

I heartily enjoyed this gem of a book which offers a good sampling of the American short story. I had forgotten how delightful this genre is--this book has helped fill my need for good literature with its thoughtfully selected stories. Those who have gotten away from the short story may enjoy the fifty offerings in this nice book. Give it a try!
