Never before has there been such an extensive and remarkable collection of ceramic pitchers that simply redefines the art. Juried by Terry Gess, this provocative colour gallery presents 500 breathtaking images that include everything from handbuilt to wheel-thrown, practical to sculptural, round to square.
"500 Pitchers" is my 3rd of the "500" series of pottery books - and I have loved each one! It is a must have for all potters and especially students - each book is filled with images of great works of the potter's art, giving ideas for form and surface. I truly hope that they will do a second edition of each with new works!

I am delighted with this book! It provides beautiful photography, stunning and varied examples of expertly-crafted pitchers, and unlimited design inspiration. Very little text is included -- the book is devoted to the photographs that illustrate these wonderful examples of form, glazing, and firing techniques. I definitely will be purchasing the "500 Cups" book now!
excellent series

this entire series of pottery books is wonderful. They're inspiring and cover a wide range of styles and techniques. My own tastes and pottery style aspire more to classic wedgwood and chinese porcelains rather than the more popular organic, earthy pottery one usually sees. It is nice that this series includes examples from the entire spectrum of contemporary potters.
Great Ideas on an Ancient Item

Pitchers have been around since pottery was invented, and probably before that. And the basic elements of the design haven't changed much since. You have to have a handle, a spout, a foot, and a belly. After that there is almost an infinite variation in design opportunities. And this book shows 500 (I guess, I didn't count them myself but that's what the title says) pitchers from hundreds of artists, from about 2002 through 2005. It's an idea book for the budding potter, or the one searching for a new concept. It shows what the modern artists are doing and it is proof positive that the design efforts of the modern potters continue to be as creative as those that went before. Here is every style from Greece to ultra modern, from American gas station to oriental porcelain, from wheel thrown to slab built. It is beautifully photographed and printed.
Excellent idea book for the potter

This, as well as all of Lark's 500 series are great for the pottery studio. Not only do they show the creativity of many potters but when students/potters are in a rut, it can take you right out of it.
