I found this to be a very moving unsentimental account of a child's life in South Africa during the turbulent years of apartheid. Case is able to write with incredible warmth but avoids sentimentality. A must for anybody wanting insights into a young girl's development at that time. Case is able to describe the emotions and feelings of an eleven year old girl as though she were that girl and not an adult writer observing. I consider this to be a rare find - a South African gem.
