Also known as Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, the manga version of the coming-of-age novel that inspired two films! In this deeply moving first-person story, an introverted high school boy finds his classmate's diary--and learns her biggest secret. Yamauchi Sakura is dying from a pancreatic disease and now he is the only one person outside her family to know the truth. The last thing the boy wants is to be her friend, but Sakura's cheerful demeanor and their shared secret draw them together in this heartrending tale of friendship and mortality.
I bought this book actually at the recommendation of one of my favorite musicians. Me being a softy, a Sentimental person...I really wasn't prepared for how invested I was going to be in this story.
It is originally a manga series, and I don't enjoy manga for the most part, so I was glad to see a novel version. It's incredible how (to me) nothing was really lost in translation, and the reader ends up falling in love with the two main characters in a classic "opposites attract" trope. There is an unfortunate twist, that left me feeling like "this is so unfair"...but then that reminds you, real life is also unfortunately unfair. I loved it.
