A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson and Me: Childhood in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries

The Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson has been an integral part of childhood for many for over a hundred years. He described his childhood in the 19th Century in poetry. Leslie Howe has created poems that describe her childhood in the 20th century. Poems by both these authors are combined in this volume. Adults and children have opportunity to enjoy poems that can open the imagination to understand the joys of childhood. Through these poems children may glimpse the joy of life in past generations. All children should experience the emotional security supplied by having adults read to them. Numerous studies have shown that the benefits of reading to a child cannot be overestimated Not only can it calm the bed time hour. It provides enhancement of vocabulary, verbal expression and even measurable brain development. Leslie Howe graduated from Westminster College where all students were given a background in classical literature along with the other elements of a traditional liberal arts education in the humanities, philosophy, theology, history and science. The communication skills of speaking and writing were also cultivated. Leslie has a master's degree in Master's degree in Mathematics from Cleveland State University and a second master's degree in Theology from Gordon-Conwell School of Theology.
