Amy Wyse's wedding to a Hong Kong Chinese seems to stand every chance of fulfilling her dreams of escape from the mundane world of middle class America. But at the wedding banquet in Hong Kong,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
A must read book for all persons considering following their hearts to another country. This is the story of Amy Wyse, a young woman from Pennsylvania who falls in love with Winston Lee, a Chinese man. After getting to know him while he is living in the US, she marries him on a visit in Hong Kong. Their marriage is troubled by many intercultural differences which no matter how hard they try, are often just too hard to overcome. One particular passage says it all, where the author writes of Amy's frustration in having to explain the obvious to her husband. The two cultures can never really meet and Amy and Winston drift apart. It's a great read, fast enough paced to keep you turning the page while keeping true to the story.
