This is a picture story book which encourages siblings of children with autism to find a way to play and connect with their brother or sister. The story is about two rabbits who are brother and sister and share a hutch. They are looked after by a little girl names Susie who plays with them each day. One of the rabbits, Hamish, lines up twigs and will happily spend his time gazing at one carrot. He doesn't play with Lily, the other rabbit, and he only smiles when Susie tickles him or lifts him high in the air. Lily likes to skip and jump and interact with the little girl. Susie loves both her rabbits equally and is unaware of Lily's sadness at being seemingly unable to interact with her brother. In the story Lily comes to realise that the way to play with Hamish is to join him in his way of playing. The story ends happily with Hamish responding positively to Lily's attempt to play in the manner that he does and there is a sense that this is the beginning of a journey they will have together. Although not all children with autism line things up or fixate on individual items, their play can often be limited and repetitive. This story is a starting point for discussion about play and how a child's autism might affect the way that they play.
