A Field Guide to Desert Holes is the first of its kind, a book focusing on one of the most common natural features of the desert. It provides an easy and enjoyable way of making sense of the... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The book is fun to read, but I have to agree, that identifying the holes would have been much easier with either photos or more of the pen and ink drawings -- which we really love. The drawings are fairly detailed, very nicely done and help quite a bit when provided. You don't often get that kind of detail in a such a niche book.
Better than I thought it would be

This book reviewed more than I thought it would and included animal behavior that was nothing less than fascinating. The book was better than I thought it would be in many ways (like the diversity of animals described and the wonderful color photographs in the middle), but it is also true that there are not as many pictures of holes as I thought there would be. Nevertheless, it appears to be a good introduction to possible desert species that can be found in holes. I would recommend it to anyone interested in nature. I will teach my Boy Scouts about what I learned in here.
This is a great reference

We use it when camping and hiking. It is great if you are planning on visiting and/or camping in the Southwest. I would agree though that there needs to be more color pictures and more drawings to illustrate exactly what the author of this book is talking about. An excellent reference that makes visiting the desert so much more fun.
