A Handbook of Statistical Analyses Using SPSS clearly describes how to conduct a range of univariate and multivariate statistical analyses using the latest version of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, SPSS 11. Each chapter addresses a different type of analytical procedure applied to one or more data sets, primarily from the social and behavioral sciences areas. Each chapter also contains exercises relating to the data sets introduced, providing readers with a means to develop both their SPSS and statistical skills. Model answers to the exercises are also provided. Readers can download all of the data sets from a companion Web site furnished by the authors.
I accessed this book on-line to check out the chapter on Survival Analysis. It is a model of clear, honest writing. It is a mark of generosity and justified self-confidence that the authors make the book available on line for free. I would still recommend buying it for the convenience of book format and to support such a fine effort. Foster Brown
Very Practical

This is a great book for individuals wanting to learn more about SPSS and statistics in general. The chapters are fairly straightforward although the final two chapters dealing with factor analysis and cluster analysis are very demanding. It was nice to be able to download data sets from the internet and work through the problems. The book uses SPSS Version 11.0 and I had version 12.0. (I think 13.0 has been released.) There were some important differences between 11 and 12, notably with creation of graphs and other graphical displays of the data. SPSS is widely used for analyzing social and behavioral sciences data, but I am using it for medical data and have found it to meet almost all of my needs.
