Book Overview

Study the life, ministry, and teaching of Jesus Christ in harmony--with all the relevant material from the Gospels placed side by side on the page and in chronological sequence.

The goal of this volume by author and teacher J. Dwight Pentecost is to help you know Jesus better by getting a clearer picture of him through the four Gospels--the books that directly depict his life, his ministry, and his heart. To show the harmony of the gospels, passages are arranged in parallel columns when more than one is cited so that you can easily see the accounts beside one another.

This simple, logical presentation of the complete parallel text with the outline greatly simplifies your study of Christ's life. A Harmony of the Words and Works of Jesus Christ is ideal for use with its companion volume, The Words and Works of Jesus Christ, a comprehensive study of the life of Christ.

A Harmony of the Words and Works of Jesus Christ also makes an outstanding parallel Scripture text for any study of the gospels or the life of Christ.

All Scripture is in the New International Version (NIV).

a harmony of the words and works of jesus christ (JD Pentecost)

This book puts the 4 gospels in time order . Mark and John are unchanged in their order whereas Matthew and luke are slightly changed to fit the time order namely Luke 3:21-4:13, 5:11,8:19-21,9:1-6,22:17-20 and Matthew 8:24-12:21 are placed in different positions. where two or three gospels align then they are shown in parallel column form. Very useful!

Harmonizing The Stories Of Jesus' Life

Dr. Dwight Pentecost, Professor Emeritus at Dallas Theological Seminary, has taken the sayings of Jesus Christ as well as the life of Jesus as recorded in the four Gospels and arranges both stories and sayings in a chronological order. Anyone reading the four Gospels without understanding the viewpoints and style of the writers (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) can come away with a somewhat confused record of the life of Jesus. Dr. Pentecost meticulously compares verse to verse in each Gospel, arranging them in the sequence in which they occur historically, and provides a column-by-column comparison so that the reader is able to see at a glance how each Gospel treats a particular segment of Jesus' life. The first three Gospels (caled the Synoptic Gospels) offer a steady parallel in telling the story of Jesus' work through Judea, Galilee and Samaria. John's Gospel contains material that is not covered by the first three (including the raising of Lazarus) but the four Gospels share much information. Dr. Pentecost approaches the Scriptures from the conservative viewpoint, from the literal, grammatical, historical view and gives even the most casual reader a very helpful guide to discerning WHEN and WHAT Jesus Christ did what he did and said what he said.
