Read of his return to full time pre-med at San Diego State in 1957 while working full time as an orderly in Palomar Memorial Hospital, midnight to 0800 hours to support a wife and three children. Next came four years of Med School at the University of Southern California, where his Professors reminded him that the practice of Medicine is like "A Jealous Mistress." She would never let you go. A grueling one year Internship at LA County General Hospital followed. Read of his first Medical practice in Monterey, California. After ten years in Monterey, he joined the Elko Clinic in Elko, NV. in 1976. After ten years he opened his own private practice office in Elko which he closed in May, 1999. Next was a seven year sojourn at the Shoshone-Paiute Indian Reservation Hospital, north of Elko, then in 2006 he began practicing ER medicine at Caliente, NV. His "affair" with the "Jealous Mistress" ended with a horse accident breaking his back in October of 2006 while gathering cows off a mountainous grazing allotment where he had raised Salers cattle since 1985.
