In the tradition of Lorenzo's Oil , a brutally?searing story?of one mother's quest to save her child's life One day Kelly Crimmins was a happy seemingly healthy twelve-year-old; the next she confessed to her mom that she'd had blood in her urine for months.?After a series of tests, Kelly was diagnosed with a life-threatening, potentially terminal autoimmune disease. A Mother's Nightmare details?Cathy and Kelly's?three-year medical and emotional journey, which took them from Philadelphia to Minnesota's Mayo Clinic and back again.?Cathy writes about the toll taken on a young girl who suddenly becomes a patient, and about a mom who in fighting for her little girl's life becomes sick herself with worry and fear.?As she did in her award-winning Where Is the Mango Princess?, ?Cathy?makes illness both personal and universal. It's an account all readers will find memorable and moving.
Wonderful account of a how a mother and daughter coped with AIH liver disease. A lot of good info and Hope for parents dealing with this dreaded disease.
Heartrending, Uplifting, Witty & True----Another Homerun from Cathy Crimmins

As this wonderful author might herself have said, Well, gee, heartrending is only the half of it. This wonderful memoir came today. I could not put it down. As with Cathy Crimmins' other masterful work WHERE IS THE MANGO PRINCESS? this new work A MOTHER'S NIGHTMARE tells the truth about how harrowing it is when someone you love is felled by something catastrophic. The anguish that this writer feels when her beloved daughter Kelly is struck by an auto-immune-illness is so vivid and real that the reader has to gasp at times. Cathy Crimmins has always had the most wonderful voice as a writer. It is no surprise that she began her career as a humorist. Ms. Crimmins can always be depended upon to find a humorous aside in an otherwise Orwellian tale of tragedy. That her daughter Kelly eventually survived this terrible and endless ordeal but Ms. Crimmins has just passed away due to her illnesses only adds to the tragedy. Thank you, Cathy, for another harrowing tale told truthfully with wit and your wondrous wisdom. I wish more than anything that there could be more Cathy Crimmins works to look forward to in the future. Rest in peace, sweet princess.
