I had the immeasurable honor of knowing the Congressman as a personal friend for many years in Washington, D.C., back when I was getting my start in politics. Jim is not just a poet; his career is impressive and spans several administrations: Congressman (his father was a Senator, too), White House Chief of Protocol, Deputy to Bobby Kennedy Jr. (during the missile crisis!) and this just scratches the surface of his accomplishments. He has been present and/or participated in some of the most historic events of the 20th century. His stories are riveting. His music unparalleled. What a voice! This is a man whose intelligence, eloquence, warmth and unfailing faith in the ultimate goodness of people renders him one of the great historians, diplomats and statesmen of our time.
