I found the biographies/commentaries on Salvemini and Silone to be good. And I found few other detailed sources for these two emminent men. The section on Lauro was OK and I did not read the section on Ruth Draper. The author knew each of these people personally which can be informative. THe author did not stick to chronology in writing these portraits, and I was sometimes what part of the life in question was being described - I felt she sometimes meandered. Then she would get back and track and I would be fascinated
