Aliens, inter-species politics, suspense, humour, great characters and character interactions, great world building — I love these books!
Best one in the series

Still all the annoying tropes and ridiculously implausible themes though. By the way the cover has Torin with a pistol in a leg holster, which contradicts the actual content of the story. Pistols don't exist in this universe and when one is introduced, the characters are confused about the concept because pistols had been wiped out of existence. No one has the imagination to hold a rifle and think "gee, someone should make this awesome projectile weapon, except have it be a one handed concealable thing!". This is literally one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. Like having cars and bicycles and going "what is a motorcycle? what a radical concept"
Gripes aside, this novel reintroduces characters from the 4th book and the interspecies interactions are by far the most enjoyable parts of this series. The Artek are interesting and it's fun that I'm thinking how adorable a cheerful insectoid that smells like cherry candy when it's happy is.
