I was born May 31, 1921 in Kane, Bighorn County, Wyoming. My father was William Henderson Dickson and my mother was Edna Seviah Despain. I was the seventh child of a family of seven. My parents were pioneers of the Big Horn Basin. They were sent to settle and colonize the Cowley area by direction from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints headquarters in 1890. My dad was mostly a dirt farmer by occupation but was also known as a stockman and a very talented sheepshearer. He taught his family how to work and play and most of all to live the gospel standards.I have never professed to have been a great hero. I was just a farm boy caught in the middle of a great war.
