Home to more than half the animals and plants on earth, A Rain Forest Tree takes a close-up look at the life that lives on and around a single tree from the heights of the canopy, down through the understory to the forest floor. The humid climate conditions are described along with the birds, animals, and insects that live at each level of the tree, and the plants and roots that grow on it. Tips help children investigate trees in their own neighborhood. Concepts are explained such as: - food chains and camouflage - prehensile tails - defense mechanisms
I have read various books centered around the rainforest topic. This is an excellent choice to include in your collection. A Rain Forest Tree is well organized with a table of contects, index, and simple glossary. The book is "student freindly", providing simple explanations and pictoral examples of complex concepts. The book is also divided into sections based on the layers of the rainforest for easy reference and research. The illustrations and photographs are WONDERFUL and effectively represent life in the rainforest! Key words are boldfaced and interesting "Fantastic Facts" are presented throughout the book. One of the things I like most is the last section of the book. The author relates the knowledge presented about the rainforest to the reader's own experience with trees and life forms in his/her environment. This book is a fabulous learning tool! It's great for those of us out there who are CRAZY about the rainforest. Pick up a copy for your collection SOON!
