Jaycee Dugard's New York Times bestselling memoir chronicles her raw and powerful story of being kidnapped in 1991 and held captive for more than eighteen years. When Jaycee Dugard was eleven years old, she was abducted from a school bus stop within sight of her home in South Lake Tahoe, California. She was missing for more than eighteen years, held captive by Phillip Craig and Nancy Garrido, and gave birth to two daughters during her imprisonment. On August 26, 2009, Garrido showed up for a meeting with his parole officer; he brought Jaycee, her daughters, and his wife Nancy with him. Their unusual behavior raised suspicions and an investigation revealed the tent behind the Garridos' home where Jaycee had been living for nearly two decades. A Stolen Life was written by Jaycee herself and covers the period from the time of her abduction in 1991 up until the present. In her stark, compelling narrative, she opens up about what she experienced--and offers an extraordinary account of courage and resilience.
I decided to read this because I live in the same city Jaycee was help captive. I was not prepared for the depths this book went but it was truly eye opening .

Don’t debate any longer, just get the book!
I began reading it and didn’t put it down until i was finished. I remember hearing about Jaycee years ago as a child myself. I don’t remember which show had aired her story, but her disappearance stuck to my mind. As an adult now and hearing that she was found, blew my mind. I don’t want to say much about the book to spoil anything, but what a brave woman! I’m so happy that she’s living her life now.
Hands down this book is one of the very few I couldn’t put down

this book is definitely a must read! If you haven’t and have been debating on it for a while, just buy it! It’s sad but inspiring.
I ordered 3 books together and this one arrived before the other two. I love the fact that it came intact. No rips, no writing on it. However I ordered the hard copy, so the cover that came with it is a little dirty but that doesn’t bother me. I only gave it a 4 star rating because I thought my order was going to be shipped all together and I would’ve received them all at once.

Jaycee shares her story in such a meaningful way. Read it and you will see what I mean. Others can retell it but only Jaycee can share it from her heart.
Gripping, Couldn't Put it Down

I have a love for books like this, to see people's struggles, hardships, all that they endured, and then see what they make of it in the end. Jaycee went though so much in her young life, way more than I could have endured. She made something special of it, and now dedicates her life to help others. Truly inspiring.

She Survived The Unthinkable
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 5 years ago
This is an amazing story, from a lionhearted survivor. This young woman endured unimaginable terror, in her most vulnerable years, yet opens her struggle to the reader with honesty, grace, and unmatchable courage. An incredible saga. The abuse is gut-wrenching, but her tale needs to be heard. I couldn't put it down. If you have also suffered, practice self care, as it's a painful (but important) read.
Sad, well written
