Claire Murphy returns home a wealthy widow. Her good looks and her bank balance draw the attention of the town's single men. Sheriff Winston Walker befriends her and for years meets her at the end of each day on her porch for a short chat. Inviting Claire to bed wasn't exactly a marriage proposal until things went so well that Win's next words were to meet him at the courthouse to get the license. That's when the first body turn up. She is drawn into the case. The victim worked at Claire's dress shop. Coincidence? Maybe. Then the shop is robbed and the man Claire pegged as the killer becomes the second victim. The wife is the obvious choice except Claire's intuition has Win's other deputy guilty. The man scowls at her. Her red hair and Irish heritage heat her temper. Win has his hands full keeping her opinions from getting her killed.
