The year 2020 brought us political conflict even prior to pandemic, but it is Covid-19 which has most marked this year. My book describes in poetry my own journey from January to the present, which is still only mid-year. This has been for me a year of isolation from my loved ones, a year of learning more about nature and its wildlife, particularly the amazing birds of San Francisco, of long walks and meditation, a search into my inner world and a deeper understanding of compassion and the pain of others. This has been a year to view injustices and inequities and seek solutions; to view our government and its perilous stance on human rights, immigration and individual liberties. My book of poetry shows a chronological journey I have taken towards finding truth in our daily lives as we confront a global pandemic, police brutality, continuing global inequities, climate chaos, hurricanes and wildfires, and the death of some of our heroes in the battle for racial justice. It continues to be a year in which historical errors and injustices underlying our social structures are laid bare, a year in which we are forced to look at ourselves and our nation with honesty and find in each other a path forward to grace and hope.
