The newest guides in AAA's Barrier-Free Travel series help mature travelers and travelers with disabilities to plan comfortable, safe, and accommodating business and leisure trips. The AAA Barrier-Free... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This guide was a pleasant surprise to read. Hype on travel that glosses over specifics is far too common in other guides, but that wasn't the case here. We're told where drapes couldn't be reached from a wheelchair, and the numbers of each type of accessible room (king, queen, nonsmoking, etc) available at each establishment. We're also told about the impressive group of "Accessibility Appraisers."It will be most useful to me in knowing what places to avoid. For major hotels to have 15-25 accessible rooms, all with one bed, won't accommodate families like mine. Since we choose not to smoke, for hotels to designate all accessible rooms as "smoking" says to me that they're not doing all they should do to accommodate disabled people.Perhaps a later edition will address traveling families, in which at least one member has a disability.
