Joyce Rose Hensley was born and raised in the Monroe County, Tennessee area and relates delightful tales of her childhood growing up during and after the depression era. She tells stories about her cousins, siblings, parents, grandparents and neighbors. She relates being a witness in a murder trial, stories of visiting neighbors on their death beds, and the ghost (or 'haint') that leapt on her grandfather's back while riding his horse home from work as a local magistrate, and a story (fiction) based on a true story about a neighbor's dog. As a bonus at the back of the book are lineages of her family from several generations of her grand-parents down to the most recent great-grand-children of her siblings via the Hensley and Lindsey families. The book also has a convenient index for those interested from a historical viewpoint to look up names and places for research.
