When it came to college acceptance for his first-born child, Hank Herman-an average Dad with average hopes and dreams for his son's college career-imagined he could resist the urge to meddle, that he could allow his son to make decisions for himself. Feeling slightly smug and superior to the good parents he'd seen go berserk before, he vowed not to become controlling and obsessed.Flash-forward to the 2' x 3' "war board" Herman has created to organize and rate the 36 colleges or universitieshe's selected as "suitable" for his son. Note the lengths to which he goes to "market" his candidate/son as a scholar and an athlete. See the sports scrapbook he has naively constructed for the coaches who now, alas, only accept video clips. Funny, self-deprecating, and all-too-familiar to today's parents, Accept My Kid, Please! details one good father's battle with his worst side. A book for parents looking ahead to or back at their child's college application process, it is an amusingly accurate cautionary tale.
On the spot memoir about the crazy but wonderful times a family experiences on the road to higher education! I've given it to all I know who are about to embark on the college thing. Thank you, thank you Hank Herman!
Humor is a Wonderful Thing!

Hank Herman provides all parents with high-school age children a much needed perspective on the college application process. I never laughed so hard while alone, reading a book! I purchased copies for everyone I know with teen-aged children and I was hailed as a hero. My 11th grader read it and loved it, as well. I passed copies on to the college counselors who loved every word (and recognized every anecdote). This is a MUST READ for anyone remotely connected to the application process -- students, parents, teachers, counselors -- and anyone else who wants a good laugh and some good insights into the mind of a typical teenage boy and the neurotic parents (of his peers, of course) during those final years of high school.

A Funny But Helpful Book

This gem of a book came into my life at the right time -- just as I was hauling my high-school son on his first visits to college campuses. This book made me laugh while keeping the college search experience in perspective. In addition to being a fun read, this book also is filled with nuggets of good advice for parents of high school students. I highly recommend it. Sally Hartman Norfolk, Virginia
A Necessity!

Would that Hank Herman's wisdom was available to all who have suffered through the college application nightmare with their teenagers! Herman's practical, funny, and absolutely scary scenario of the trial-by-fire that college application has become is a must for every parent of an applicant. Highly recommended.
