This book is a shockingly accurate description of a friend of mine. She is "The Troll" that Terry Cooper describes. After reading this book, I highly recommend it to anyone who knows a Troll. Trolls are highly secretive and avoid-ann-t. They don't like non-Trolls knowing much about them. Specific chapters such as "The Problem with Troll-Killing," "Accepting the Troll" and "Crossing the Bridge" are excellent therapy. Finally, although Trolls have bulbous noses and fat ankles...they make the best friends. Good luck "crossing the bridge" - you'll need it!

I am a therapist in MA who specializes in women's issues, codependency, dissociative disorder, PTSD, all of which involve self-esteem problems. Dr. Cooper's book uses a gentle, humorous, nonjudgemental approach to help people understand their thoughts and reactions and offers solutions to make things better. I've been buying this book in quantities to make it readily available to my patients who are taking in its message and feeling better quicker! This book complements DBT group work and other cognitive behavioral approaches. Please don't ever let it go out of print!
