Using the Harvard Case Method, Accounting for Managers covers both financial and managerial topics in one term. It is designed for use at the graduate (MBA) level, or by advanced undergraduates and/or upper-tiered AACSB schools. Although this textbook assumes that students need not understand everything accountants do, it does focus on introducing terminology forms and formats of financial statements and accounting analyses and illustrations so they can comprehend much of what goes on. Accounting for Managers will prepare your students to deal with the current and future developments which face accountants and managers in situations where complex financial transactions, events, and status must be communicated.
I used the text in an accounting class for my MBA. The writing is reasonably concise and the examples and cases are thorough and useful. I don't know if anyone buys textbooks without necessity for coursework, but this is a very good book to learn accounting starting with the basics.
