Provides a special version of the high-performance Fastgraph graphics library with over 600 pages of online documentation. Presents a wealth of tips on game design, 256-color and "mode x" VGA graphics... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The best about this book is that it shows some quite good tricks "behind the scenes". How would you do scrolling? How to chop the background into small tiles? How to make a person not "falling through the ceiling"? How to use function pointers for actions? There is a drawback also. This book covers the FASTGRAPH system, which is some kind of MS-DOS API for video access. But anyway, once understood, the tricks are what counts.
Incredibly Helpful!!

This book contributed a great deal to my video game programming. Although it was written for games using Fastgraph, the concepts taught are easy to apply if you are writing your own low level soubroutines. EXCELLENT grounding for anyone from the beginner to the pro!!!

I bought this book a few months ago, and I got to say that is has been incredibly helpful! Diana Gruber shows you how to create side-scroller games in a way that anyone who has programmed in C can undertand. Sure, the book uses Fastgraph (The graphics library) a lot, but, it makes programming easier. Good job Diana!
A valuable book for beginners.

As I am just getting into game programming as a hobby, this book has been great in pointing me in the right direction. The tools an examples on the companion disk have been very helpful. Of course, it wasn't an encyclopedia on game programming, but now I know what more I need to learn about. I recommend this to anyone starting out in games, graphics or programming in general

Noted game developer Diana Gruber provides step-by-step instructions for writing action arcade games in C. You will need to know something about C programming before you start, but there is plenty of sample code to help you along. The companion disk includes complete source code for thesample game developed in the book, some helpful game development utilities, a copy of the Fastgraph/Light graphics library, and additional sample games. Gruber is the senior programmer at Ted Gruber software, creators ofFastgraph. A well-known online personality, she has been writing games since 1987, and is a contributor to several industry publications. I like Diana, and it made me smile to imagine this book being narrated in her voice. This is a clearly-written, no-nonsen
