This text aims to provide students in engineering with a sound presentation of post-calculus mathematics. It features numerous examples, many involving engineering applications, and contains all... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Wylie and Barrett's book, though not very popular, is very comprehensive and provides problems ranging from a few basic to very difficult ones. I personally favor this book than Arfken's though Arfken's is way more popular. I tried to do as many problems in the book as possible. There is student's complete solutions to the book, written in Chinese, which I found to be very helpful.
Barrett was a good choice to update the book.

This book on advanced engineering mathematics had been for a long time a sort of cult book among engineering students at Montana State in Bozeman, and was used for MSU's year-long junior course in applied mathematics in the math dept. Apparently, Wylie was getting on in years and wanted a co-author. Having studied applied math with Prof. Barrett at Bozeman, I can definitely say he was the right person to co-author this book, as he has a real reverence for applied math and an insistence upon exact, clear thinking. This is not to say the book is representative of the mathematical style of Western state universities as Wylie got his Ph.D. from Cornell, I believe. Actually, the style reminds me of the books by Churchill, i.e., everything clearly presented with a traditional use of proofs and problems that inspire rather than pander to the student. An extremely useful and enjoyable book for serious students of applied math and advanced engineering.
Pretty Good!

This book cover all those mathematical topics that are usefull for engineering. The special mention are the chaptres about variational calculus and tensors, themes sometimes not covered by apply mathematics books or, if covered, not with that special care that this book treat these (fast, concise, although the reader must to have the enough background). The exercises are very clear respect of the theory and shows the applications in direct relations whith the different branches of the apply science (Mechanics, Electricity, Fluid Mechanics, Vibrating Mechanics Etc.). I recommend this Book for all those people tha want to learn the Basic mathematics for Enginnering without too much methodologic rodeos.
Outstanding Textbook

If you are to have one book on the subjects covered herein, this is the one book to buy. It could easily be the only book an engineer would need these days if it covered tensor calculus, difference equations, probability theory and an introduction to the math theory behind discrete time sampling systems (Z transforms, DFT, FFT, etc).
