Akita-Treasure of Japan Vol. II is THE BEST Akita book ever! I cannot count the numerous times I have gone to Barbara's book to find needed information. You cannot find more information on Akitas and their health anywhere. This book is an absolute necessity! The medical information by Dr. W. Jean Dodds is an added bonus to an already outstanding book! Thanks Barbara for writing Vol. II.
If you can buy only one Akita book, buy THIS one

This book is a godsend for anybody who owns an Akita whether as a pet, show dog, obedience dog, etc. Virtually everything you need to know from personality to grooming, from health to holistics and feeding is in this book. There is nothing missing. Have a question about your Akita? It's in here. I cannot say enough good about this book. It is a bible of Akita information. We all (as Akita owners) owe Barbara a debt of gratitude for putting together so much information between the covers of one book. I am an Akita breeder, and my advice is this: if you can purchase only one Akita book, then this is the book to buy.
Priceless!

After Bouyet's first book, I was in line for the second one long before it was available, and it didn't disappoint. There can be no price put on the information contained, including health, history and nutrition. There are numerous examples of non-traditional remedies that your vet will never tell you! There is more information on nutrition than your vet will ever know! There is a view to the 'whole dog' that no one but an experienced owner/rescuer and devoted, full time student of the breed could ever have developed. And Bouyet is willing to share it - along with touching and beautiful photos that span generations of development and changes in the Akita breed. Artwork by Alicia Meyer enhances the imagery, and Dr. Jean Dodds' involvement is a huge bonus as, in my opinion, she is THE authority on the Akita immune and endocrine system. On the surface, this is a gorgeous coffee-table book that depicts the love the author has for our sometimes difficult breed, but open the cover and you'll find an amazing wealth of knowledge that no other book can deliver.

I thought Volume 1 was beyond reproach and yet somehow Barbara Bouyet has been able to outdo herself. This book is a must have for any Akita owner and is a great research volume to have for any dog owner! My book is marked and tabbed for fast access to topics and even my vet has used it often to help diagnose issues that otherwise may have gone overlooked or in the wrong direction. Barbara has given the world a great gift with compiling this information all in one book. I highly recommend it and encourage anyone interested in considering the Akita to read it before, during, and after ownership! Thank you Barbara for a stellar job!
