A personal favorite story of any series

This story fits perfectly within the Alien universe. It is harsh, unforgiving, nature at it's most brutal. The characters are either relatable or believable, and enough backstory is given to take you deeper into the plot and at the same time want more. I remember reading this one for the first time at a bookstore right around the year 2000 and it has stuck with me since. It is pure horror without the jump scares. The plot isn't perfectly unique, but every word and illustration is service to a spectacularly told story.
