"A very warm, very engaging read. . . . The reader falls totally under his spell." -- Associated Press The second volume in the multimillion copy bestselling series Millions of readers have delighted in the wonderful storytelling and everyday miracles of James Herriot in the over thirty years since his delightful animal stories were first introduced to the world. Now in a new edition for the first time in a decade, All Things Bright and Beautiful is the beloved sequel to Herriot's first collection, All Creatures Great and Small , and picks up as Herriot, now newly married, journeys among the remote hillside farms and valley towns of the Yorkshire Dales, caring for their inhabitants---both two- and four-legged. Throughout, Herriot's deep compassion, humor, and love of life shine out as we laugh, cry, and delight in his portraits of his many, varied animal patients and their equally varied owners. "Humor, realism, sensitivity, earthiness; animals comic and tragic; and people droll, pathetic, courageous, eccentric---all of whom he views with the same gentle compassion and a lively sense of the sad, the ridiculous, and the admirable." -- Columbus Dispatch
I read all of the 4 Herriot books when I was in high school, but I find I'm getting so much more out of them as an adult. Mr. Herriot is a delightful companion to take along on an overseas flight, but you should be prepared to explain to your seatmates why you are laughing so hard that tears are streaming down your face!
Book assignment on a great book!

This is a really great book and the only biography I've really ever liked. It's about a guy (James Herriot) who is a country vet. This has stories about his work at a pet show, him when he's trying to court his future wife, and it has a lot about the personalities of the animals he treated. It also has a lot of his blunders, like when he got drunk (accidentally, I think) and went out to a farm. The people there were really religious, and he found out the next day the despised drinking! He didn't go out there again. All in all, it was a really good book, and I recommend it for any animal lovers or future vets out there.
This book truely captures the rare beauty of being a vet

This book truely reflects the escents of being a country vet on the Yorkshire Dales. It really captivates you and takes you on a journey to the town of Darrowby and surrounds you in the rich atmoshere. I have never been there myself but I feel as if I've lived there my whole life! This is a truly amazimg book I know that anyone who has read it would definetly agree that this book deserves my rating of five stars. Only once a century (or less) someone one like Herriot comes and makes you feel like you are truly there. I wish I could of meet him. He has made me want to be a veterinary doctor. Once again, JUST AWESOME!!!
