This is a good book by a great author. I won't rehash the book blub here but the story line if full of twists so if you are looking for a clean cut black and white romance this isn't it. There is a wide range of characters running through an equally broad spectrum of experiences and emotions. They are witty, they are complex, and they are real.
The best Rita Mae book yet.

Other than her mystery series, I've read every novel Rita Mae Brown has written. I read "Rubyfruit Jungle" so many times in my teen years that I'd memorized quite a bit of it. "Six of One" is also one of my favorite reads in any genre. Alma Mater is both of those all grown up. It is all the good parts of those books and more. Set in 1980, two girls at the end of their time in college meet and, in a suprise for both of them, they fall in love. What happens around that and the characters that inhabit their lives makes for an incredible read. Once I read it, I wanted to be able to read it again for the first time.
it's really a good'un

One of Rita Mae Brown's Best

I've read all of Ms. Brown's books and probably enjoyed this one the most. I picked up Alma Mater one evening at 6:30 P.M. and didn't put it down unitl I finished the book at 11:00. The characters were delightful and realistic. The description of William and Mary was right on the mark. It is definitely a book that I will read over and over again.
A darned good read with warm brownies

I was really curious to see if Rita could maintain the quality of her "non sneaky pie" books. Yep, she did it. The writing is fluid and typically southern (which I happen to love). The characters are well written and physically described so throughly I can practically pick them out of a crowd. I laughed my butt off at the mental pictures of the updated wardrobe of the Virgin Mary!! This book is warm and ripe and lovely.
