This must be the one of the last classic textbooks in electronics. (1987 Harper & Row, OR 1986 J Wiley) It seems to me that electronics books published after 1990 (with a few exceptions) tend to be naive. Authors try to simplify the matter by leaving out the esential maths and/or presenting only the obvious and simplfied applications. This makes sense since in these days electronics have been relegated to just a course module or two in many Colleges. So, by publishing an easy text for first year-first semester undergraduates authors present a palatable text for everybody. This is not the case with P. M. Chirlian. (author also of 'Basic Network Theory'). This book is different. It belongs to the traditional electronics texts where the material is well documented, full of design information and formulas, examples, and anything that an electrical engineer may need in subsequent courses or later in his/her carrier. P. M. Chirlian has put everything: from the usual semiconductor physics to R.F. tuned/untuned cases to digital circuits. If you are looking for a good book in electronics this the one. Though written in 1986, it is still modern by 2000 standards. A very good investment (just £23) and a must. Electronics enthusiasts will like it too.
