Find out how Andrew Jackson helped the working people by forcing the Second National Bank out of business. Getting to Know the U.S. Presidents series combines a delightful mix of full-color historical reproductions, photos, and hilarious cartoon-style illustrations that bring to life the Presidents of the United States of America, combining poignant anecdotes with important factual information for readers (Ages 8-9). This book presents the life and accomplishments of the seventh president, who supported the Indian Removal Act.
My son (age 8) is slightly obsessed with American presidents right now so we have done our fair share of reading on this subject. Some of the books are full of information, but difficult to slog through because of how 'dry' they are. Some are written in an exciting way but a little too light on the facts. This book was a perfect mixture of information and age appropriate humor. My son has enjoyed this book more than any of the other President biographies he has read. He especially loved the cartoons and laughed out loud several times. He also learned a good amount of information about Andrew Jackson, including the things that history sometimes likes to gloss over (Indian Removal Act). I was pleased and my son was very pleased. I hope our library has more of this series, and if they don't, I might just have to get the entire collection myself.
