"I like to collect knives," says Angelina Jolie, "but I also collect first edition books." At first glance, she might seem to be someone without any secrets, talking openly about her love life, sexual preferences, drug use, cutting, and tattoos--and why she kissed her brother on the lips in public. And yet mysteries remain: What was really going on in her brief, impulsive marriages to Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, and what is going on in her partnership with Brad Pitt? What's behind the oft-reported feud with her father, the Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight? What drove her to become a mother of six children in six years? And--perhaps most puzzling of all--what about the other side of Angelina: How did this talented but troubled young actress, barely 35 years old, become a respected Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations as well as the "most powerful celebrity in the world" (unseating Oprah Winfrey) on Forbes' 2009 Celebrity 100 list? The answers that Andrew Morton has uncovered are astonishing, taking us deep inside Angelina's world to show us what shaped her as a child, as an actress, and as a woman struggling to overcome personal demons that have never before been revealed. In this spellbinding biography, Andrew Morton draws upon far-reaching original interviews and research, accompanied by exclusive private photographs, to show us the true story behind both the wild excesses of Angelina's youth and her remarkable workwith children and victims of poverty and disaster today.
It starts off slow. I had a hard time getting into it with all the back story but after the first chapter it really became more interesting. DEfinately gives you some insight on why Angelina behaves as she does.
Misunderstood Angel

They say once you read this you will hate her, that Brad will leave her. What I experienced is the opposite. After reading, I admired her even more, the way she reinvented herself from worse to the best icon ever. I now understan where she's coming from, why she acted the way she did. Angekina is a very amirable woman.
Surprisingly Enjoyed It!

I read the reviews of this book and was skeptical at first, so I checked it out at the library rather than spend money on something I wouldn't read. However, I found I could not put this book down. To me it gave a non-bias view of Angelina and her life. I have always found her to be a great actress and love her films. However, as far as her personal life, I was always weary thinking she is just too out there. This book made me actually respect her personally as well as professionally. I have a new found respect for her, her mother, & even her father! I think the book did a great job in telling her story and not just promoting the mindless gossip of the tabloids. This made me a true fan of hers. Yes she has made some questionable choices but who has not.

I think that this book gives you insight into why Angelina is who she is and how she got there. I find that Morton is very fair in his writing of this book on Jolie. Hollywood is a difficult town to make it in and to stay on top like Angelina has. Jolie has worked very hard to get where she has by playing a man's game in a men's club and using her sexuality and family connections, yet her talent always won out once her foot was in the door. Her personal life and childhood is interesting to read about...the what makes her tick is explained. She knows her sexuality is powerful and uses it. But what naysayers of Morton's book that have not read it don't understand is that Morton is very fair with Angeline's life story so far. Morton is not mean and vicious about Jolie at all, but informative and sometimes leaves you with as much information that he has, but won't embellish like other unauthorized biographies have done. I enjoyed this book and I'm sick of Angelina's fans whom have not read this book putting it down when in fact Angelina through hard work and determination rises above so much in her life to better herself! I found myself fascinated and liking Angelina Jolie more once I knew her story!
Revealing

This book is Absolutely riveting! The pictures are incredible! Morton has revealed why Angie acts out and rebels, which inspired me to have a deeper understanding of her psyche. He has done what no one else has been able to, He has revealed her true nature starting from the foundation years to her rise, fall and then transformation into Hollywood's leading lady. One might assume her acting is brilliant to go from drugged out heroin addict to Saint Angie, saving the world one orphanage at a time. You see how open her heart is and how she is compelled to save herself, heal the child within, through these children she has adopted and loved unconditionally as they love her. I am a big fan of Angie's so I had to read it right away...boy is it a page turner!
