Swanton's book is an excellent resource for those interested in Anglo-Saxon studies who are looking for modern translations of prose texts of the period. The book contains a wide variety of material useful to students of literature, history and religious studies: It includes letters, wills, homilies and church calendars as well as more well known pieces such as the Life of St. Guthlac and the writings of Aelfric and King Alfred.
