I'm a homeschooling mom. My daughter has excelled in Reading, but hates writing. She comes up with stories while playing, but when she is asked to write she hates it. Knowing that she enjoys animals and enjoys art, I thought this would be a good choice. It encourages her to write. The only reason why it didn't get 5 stars is that it doesn't show you how to draw the baby koala or the backround pictures.
Love this drawing series!

This is a great book for beginner elementary aged artist, for reports on animals. The drawings are very easy to duplicate for the average 2nd/4th grader. For more technique try Drawing with Children. I have boughten everyone in this series because it has great ideas and the drawings are fun to make. My girls have made some pretty spectacular pictures with these books as their inspiration.
Where writing really is an art!

Anyone who has ever picked up this series knows how great it is for kids! My son was so proud of himself last week when he was able to learn how to draw an elephant for the first time!! He didn't think the rest of the family would believe he had been the artist of the picture now hanging on our fridge. Of course the handwriting review is great, but I use these books as my art curriculum. I appreciate the way they break drawing down into steps (lines and curves) that make sense. I love these books, and all three of my kids have loved them too. Enjoy!
