Fore more than sixty years, since making his photographs of Yosemite Valley, Ansel Adams has sought to capture 'the instant of revelation - of timelessness' The landscapes for which he is best known... This description may be from another edition of this product.
What I like most about this book is, of course, the photographs. However, this is also a biography. As this book chronicles his life, it presents relevant photos from the particular period. What made me purchase this book was the fact that it contains many lesser known works. Everyone is familiar with his work in the national parks. Images of Half Dome and other expansive landscapes are pretty well known. But not all his work (nor all his BEST) was of these subjects. Such images as Boards and Thistles, Madrone Bark, Woman Winnowing Grain, and Leaves are some fine examples. The text of this book is quite interesting and well written for the most part. There are some areas in which the text seems to jump around a bit, but all in all, it is an interesting read. Even if you do not have an interest in Adams' life (about which it is worth reading) you will enjoy the photography in this book. Also, it will expand many people's view of his body of work. It has definitely caused me to want to learn more about Adam's works and techniques.
