This book is a great introduction to Anthropology. It clearly demonstrates to the reader what and how various practices came to be. This is my first exposure to the subject and this book is fascinating, informative, and fun to read. It is a text for my class, but I would have bought it just for the pleasure of learning something new, different and interesting. I would recommend this book to everyone who is interested in other cultures and religious beliefs.

This book is informative but repeats itself often. It can be a bit of a dry read for such an interesting subject but if you filter out the unnecessary repetition, it's not bad.

This book is great for first-time anthropology students; it teaches basic as well as advanced concepts without seeming overly preachy or didactic. Its ethnographic examples focus mainly on so-called "primitive" societies, and allows the discerning reader to visualize the supernatural world time and time again through their eyes. A fantastic read!
