not great but still quite worth of it

I partly agree with the downstairs, but can not put it in 1 star. This book is OK for beginner, both on Win32 and Linux. And with detailed description (yes, it tells what is called NT Service and how to open a MMC to start a service :-) so IT JUST WORKS. On the other hand, there is a lot of setting with the config, this book contians a long list of explaination with the para, like a ref book. But it does gives you a few good example of CGI (C and Perl). Still think it is the top apache book on market

This book offers a step by step process of installing the Tomcat webserverto Unix (primarily) and Windows servers. at every stage, the authors havetaken the time to include the information about windows operating system.the authors have taken the time to arrange the flow of the chapters to match the events in a real world server configuration exercise of anapache. the book also describes the differences in the versionf of Apachefor the benefit of users.In all, the book is good material for the not-so experienced apache userslike me.regardsRavi MahalingamColumbia, SC Java Users group.
If there's a better intro to Apache, I haven't found it

For anyone new to Apache, The Definitive Guide is, by far, the best bet. In a little over an hour, I understood enough about Apache to confidently add it to my resume under "working familiarity with..."-- no joke. This book demystifies virtually every issue a webmaster not expertly-versed in Linux/Unix-based website setups might run into when first trying to configure/test/optimize his or her standard production server. Once you realize that it's all about the httpd.conf file, you're well on your way to being able to maintain an Apache site.Buy this book.
Windows geeks may not get it, but UNIX/LINUX geeks will.

I am a computer professional and I got the book in order to install and run Apache on our company web servers. I do know my way around UNIX and NT, but I'm no system administrator.I was shocked at the bad reviews. I found this book to be a great read and organized as should be. The only reason I think someone would not like this book is if they are use to GUI tools in the Windows world. If you know UNIX/LINUX and aren't scared of OS command lines, this book is great. If you are a Windows geek, this book may not be that great, but let's face it, Apache and TCP/IP is UNIX at it's best.I found this book a good training source and reference manual.

This book allowed me to lockdown my apache server and fine tune all the little things one might over look. Very easy to read.
