This textbook does an excellent job clearly defining and distinguishing "animal rights" and "animal welfare" and gives a detailed historical background of the issues. It also goes into detail about the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), IACUCs, other legislation, government agencies, animal rights organizations, and more. It's too bad everyone won't read this book. If everyone understood the issues, rather than just getting one-sided, inaccurate views from fliers or the Internet, public opinion would be much more well-rounded.
