I recently bought this book while traveling. I love to collect craft books of every kind,to add to my craft library. I recently started quilting and applique was mentioned alot. I thought using applique on quilting and sewing projects wonderful, but to a beginner, scary!!I took out this book and was amazed how much information, designs, and projects there were. It is written for the novice,as well as,the experienced. It has so many designs you can trace. Color pictures to get an idea of finished projects, and easy to follow instructions. I have looked at other applique books, but none have the extent of designs, techniques that this book has. The collection of designs could be used for many other craft projects as well! I am working on a table top for my niece. She collects honey jars. I bought some fabric with bees and thought making a beehive applique would finish it off. I looked in many books, tried to draw it,but couldn't find any. I remembered this book. Guess what? There was a wonderful behive design and flying bee. I traced it,made the applique and sewed to block. It was adorable and I was proud that I was able to do it following info from book! It is a "must have" for your craft collection! It is well worth the investment!

Mary Mulari could easily be called the 'first lady' of garment machine applique and Appliques with Style is an excellent example of why she deserves this title. Not only are her applique design top rate but her directions are very good. They are clear and easy to follow, easy enough for a beginner to machine applique. Mary discusses not only what materials and equipment you will need, she has a wonderful chapter on machine stitches beyond the basic satin stitch. Mary's books are always full of illustrations and Appliques with Style also has several pages of color photos in Mary's Applique Design Gallery. If you are a beginner to machine applique or just wanting some new designs and ideas, Appliques with Style will not disappoint you! It is an excellent first book or an addition to any sewer's library.
