1942, Japan. As World War II rages and Spain endures the darkest years of the Franco dictatorship, Jacinto Casares and his daughter, Mar a, prepare to start a new life in the Empire of the Rising Sun.

The owner of a coffee plantation on the island of Java, Casares has accepted a mission that could benefit the family in these turbulent times. The situation in Japan, however, is more complicated than he thought, and Mar a is tasked with a dangerous errand: concealing valuable jewels in the shipments of coffee beans.

Ordered to protect her precious cargo at all costs, Mar a is escorted by Coronel Juro Hokusai. A forbidden and passionate romance is kindled between them as they embark on the perilous journey to her family's plantation in Java, where past memories evolve into present-day horrors.
