Book Overview

Arrowpoints, Spearheads, and Knives of Prehistoric Times is a book written by Thomas Wilson and published in 1899. The book is a comprehensive study of the prehistoric tools and weapons that were used by early humans. Wilson, who was a curator at the Smithsonian Institution, draws on his extensive knowledge of archaeology and anthropology to provide a detailed description of the various types of arrowheads, spearheads, and knives that were used by early humans. The book is divided into several chapters, each of which focuses on a specific type of tool or weapon. Wilson describes the materials used to make these tools, such as flint, obsidian, and chert, and explains how they were shaped and sharpened. He also provides information on the various techniques used to make these tools, such as pressure flaking and percussion flaking. In addition to describing the tools themselves, Wilson also discusses their uses and the cultural significance they held for early humans. He explores the different hunting and fishing techniques that were used with these tools, as well as their role in warfare and ritual practices. Overall, Arrowpoints, Spearheads, and Knives of Prehistoric Times is an informative and engaging book that provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of early humans. It is a must-read for anyone interested in archaeology, anthropology, or the history of human civilization. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Really Absorbing

This treasure of a book is a huge survey of prehistoric stone weapons, amazingly rendered in what must be hundreds of artfully detailed line drawings. The wonderful Helen Marshall Thomas frames the material perfectly. Besides having hours of fun with it, I came away with the strange sense of empathy and understanding for the prehistoric peoples who fashioned these early stone tools.

Amazing

I am so happy I bought this book. The line drawings are breathtaking. The writing is fascinating. This is truly a relic that I'm glad has been brought back to life for historians, collectors, etc.
