Looks can be deceiving! Artemisian Artist looks and sounds like a historical novel but it is in fact, the cool first story in a series named after the Greek Godesses.Liz, an Artist meets Terry, a doctor on her way home from visiting her father in hospital. A series of events also introduce her to Gerry a friendly policewoman. The drama centers around the dynamics between these 3 women and also Liz's younger sister, who is still in high-school but, who shows all the signs of being a ... in the making. Beth Mitchum touches lightly on a lot of contemporary and not so contemporary issues like, women's safety, homophobia, sibling rivalry and the parent/child bond without bogging us down with issues so much that we can't enjoy the fast-paced, funny dialogue. Artemisian Artist is a fun read and I look forward to reading more about the lives of the 4 characters in the next books.
