Marie Rudisill, aka "The Fruitcake Lady," made her first Tonight Show with Jay Leno appearance in December 2000 in a now classic segment, when she helped Jay Leno and Mel Gibson make fruitcake. Since 2002 she has regularly dished out sassy advice to fans in her popular segment called "Ask The Fruitcake Lady." A frenzied mother asks, "My teenage son sleeps all the time. How do I get him to help around the house?" The Fruitcake Lady responds with a no-nonsense answer: "Well, all you got to do is get up there and say, Get your ass out of the bed And I mean get it out " Ask the Fruitcake Lady will gather together some of Marie's finest morsels of wisdom and advice, including: Spicy advice on profanity in children Nutty wisdom of talking to houseplants Dishing out a good helping of sass when she addresses curing hangovers Outrageous ways of dealing with mothers-in-law and bachelor parties Finding a rich man to marry What a single, soon-to-be 40 woman needs more than a man "The Fruitcake Lady" is not just any nonagenarian from Florida. She is Truman Capote's aunt, and it was her book, Fruitcake: Memories of Truman Capote and Sook , which brought her to the attention of Jay Leno. Her quips to viewers questions have made her a favorite on the The Tonight Show with Jay Leno .
Having seen the Fruitcake Lady on the Jay Leno show, her answers to questions presented were always humorous with that grandmotherly common sense advice. I enjoyed reading this book and not only laughed at some of her answers but at some of the questions as well. If you are looking for a read that's quick, humorous and enlightening,Ask the Fruitcake Lady is it.

This book was laugh out loud funny. I bought it for my sister's birthday and thought I'd read a few pages. I read it cover to cover because I couldn't put it down. The Fruitcake Lady had more good sense than most people walking around today.

If you have seen The Fruitcake Lady on Jay Leno or caught her on YouTube or Videosift, then you will know what to expect from this extremely funny, brash, no-nonsense book! She uses the question and answer format of her appearances on Jay Leno's Tonight Show, and answers people's questions with her unique blend of Southern charm, old-fashioned values, and a refreshing modernity that allows her to talk about the most shocking things in clear language (read: sometimes she swears like a sailor!). All of the material in this book is fresh - I am a huge fan and have seen all of her Leno appearances and read her Fruitcake recipe book, so I would have noticed if any of the Q and A had been recycled. It is a great coffee table book. It is arranged with each page having a Q and A, with a black and white photo of her pointing her finger or making a colorful expression at the silly questions she is sometimes asked on every other page or so, whenever the Q and A for the page is a bit shorter. She gives a lot of very funny advice, but she also touches on a few more serious matters, and it is neat to get the perspective of someone so frank and with such good common sense. I read the whole book in about an hour and a half, but have gone back a few times for a good chuckle. Her advice about back waxing will never grow stale. Marie Rudisill, our beloved Fruitcake Lady, died in November 2006, so if you know any fans or simply anyone who needs a good kick in the arse sometimes, this would be an excellent and timely way to honor her memory.
