Asperger Syndrome in the Inclusive Classroom offers support and practical techniques for teachers who work with children with Asperger Syndrome (AS). Based on the successful experiences of classroom teachers, and written from a teacher's perspective, this book provides creative and easy-to-apply strategies that support and encourage AS students in the mainstream classroom, from organization and time management techniques to framing classroom instructions to make lessons more accessible for children with AS. The authors' straightforward, practical advice relates to every part of the school day and includes advice for teaching specific subject areas. They give tips on helping students navigate the school environment, how to handle social situations like lunch and breaks, and what to do during unstructured periods. This book is essential reading for teachers and school staff who want to fully include AS students in the classroom.
This is the 2nd copy of this book I have bought. This copy I plan to donate to my son's local school in August. This book tells about situations in the school where kids with aspergers have trouble and some creative solutions teachers used to help their students with aspergers. This book reminds me of alot of struggles my son has had in middle school. Things the teachers took as being defiant or disrespectful. After reading this book it shead some new light on where my son's struggles were and how the school could help him. I even had one of his teachers read the 1st copy and give me his input of did he think it would help his coworkers understand aspergers better and yes he thought it would. This is the 1st book on aspergers that I read it gave the problem and a possible solution to that problem. I do believe that every teacher and administrator with a student with aspergers should read this book for a much better understanding of where our kids struggle in the school environment and how to help them. As a parent they don't always take your word about your child but this book gave a good perspective of the school environment the struggles these kids have and a working solution to alot of those struggles to include the child in the inclusive classroom.

This is an outstanding book. It offers understanding and many suggestions to help cope with the needs of a student with Asberger's. It explains what an Asberger student may be experiencing emotionally and what reactions might be expected from them. For a teacher who has is expecting a student with Asberger's, it's a must read and a great resource. It is also a great book for parents who may not understand how noisy, loud and disruptive a school can be to a child with Asberger's. I highly recommend this book!
